The Balkans, due to its strategic position, throughout the history hosted many great civilizations such as the Roman Empire, Alexander Empire, Ottoman Empire. All civilizations created in the Balkans or dominated the Balkans, have left permanent abstract and concrete traces in the Balkans. Architectural works and artistic works are the most important ones of the observable works. Although they are the subject to many researches, with the culture of civilizations, architectural works created by the mixing of the culture formed in the Balkans and the resulting works of art have not been studied sufficiently. International Balkan History Studies Committee (IBHSC-UBTAK) has determined the main theme of the 8th International Symposium on Balkan History Studies (ISBHS-UBTAS) in 2021 as “Architecture and art in the Balkans”, in order to introduce the works on architectural works and artistic activities in the Balkans to their enthusiasts, especially to the world of science, and to contribute to eliminating the deficiencies in this regard. It is aimed to eliminate the lack of literature in this field by publishing into a book the papers presented to the symposium.
